BIO - Biology

BIO 105 - Science of Biology w/Lab [SC1]
Examines the basis of biology in the modern world and surveys the current knowledge and conceptual framework of the discipline. Explores biology as a science, a process of gaining new knowledge, and the impact of biological science on society. This course includes a laboratory experience. Designed for non-science majors. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-SC1 category. Prerequisites: MAT 055 or MAT 107 or higher, and CCR 092 or higher with grades of "C" or better. Prerequisite courses may be taken concurrently. Four credits.

BIO 106 - Basic Anatomy and Physiology
Focuses on basic knowledge of body structures and function, and provides a foundation for understanding deviations from normal and disease conditions. This course is designed for individuals interested in health care and is directly applicable to the Practical Nursing Program, Paramedic Program and the Medical Office Technology program. Prerequisites: MAT 055 or MAT 107 or higher, and CCR 092 or higher with grades of "C" or better. MAT course may be taken concurrently. Four credits.

BIO 111 - Gen College Biol I w/Lab [SC1]
Examines the fundamental molecular, cellular and genetic principles characterizing plants and animals. Includes cell structure and function, and the metabolic processes of respiration, and photosynthesis, as well as cell reproduction and basic concepts of heredity. The course includes laboratory experience. This course is a statewide guaranteed transfer course GT-SC1. Prerequisite: BIO 105 with a grade of "C" or better. Students who have completed one year of high school biology within the last seven years with a grade of "C" or better or have scored 70% or higher on the BIO 105 test out exam may be eligible for a prerequisite override. Five credits.

BIO 201 - Human Anatomy/Phys I w/Lab:SC1
Focuses on an integrated study of the human body including the histology, anatomy, and physiology of each system. Examines molecular, cellular, and tissue levels of organization plus integuments, skeletal, articulations, muscular, and nervous systems. Includes a mandatory hands-on laboratory experience covering microscopy, observations, and dissection. This is the first semester of a two-semester sequence. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-SC1 category. Prerequisite: BIO 111 with a grade of "C" or better. Students who have scored 70% or higher on the BIO 111 test out exam may be eligible for a prerequisite override. Four credits.
