CHE - Chemistry

CHE 101 - Intro to Chemistry I w/Lab:SC1
Includes the study of measurements, atomic theory, chemical bonding, nomenclature, stoichiometry, solutions, acid and base, gas laws, and condensed states. Laboratory experiments demonstrate the above concepts qualitatively and quantitatively. Designed for non-science majors, students in occupational and health programs, or students with no chemistry background. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-SC1 category. Prerequisites: MAT 055 or higher (except MAT 107, 108, 109, 112, 135, 175), and CCR 092 or higher with grades of "C" or better. Five credits
Department contact: WSTV 278, 339-6296. Click the CRN (5-digit number) to view important additional class section information.

All students enrolled in a science class must attend the class by the second session, or contact the instructor by the second session, in order to retain a seat in the class. No admittance after first week of class.

CHE 111 - Gen College Chem I w/Lab: SC1
Focuses on basic chemistry and measurement, matter, chemical formulas, reactions and equations, stoichiometry. This course covers the development of atomic theory culminating in the use of quantum numbers to determine electron configurations of atoms, and the relationship of electron configuration to chemical bond theory. The course includes gases, liquids, and solids and problem-solving skills are emphasized through laboratory experiments. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-SC1 category. Prerequisite: CHE 101 with a grade of "C" or better. Students who have completed one year of high school chemistry within the last seven years with a grade of "C" or better may be eligible for a prerequisite override. Five credits.
